My name is Andi and I am a senior at Ohio University. I am a dual music major in Vocal Performance and Choral Music Education. Basically, I love to sing. Right now, I am participating in the Ohio Valley Summer Theater's production of "Into The Woods." I am Lucinda, one of Cinderella's stepsisters. This will be our last weekend of shows, so if anyone is interested, the performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm in the Forum Theater on the ground floor of the RTV building (tickets are $12). It's a really fun show that combines the stories of Cinderella, Little Red RidingHood, Rapunzel, and more!
I'm from a very musical family. My Dad sings and plays guitar, my grandfather played piano very well, and my great-grandfather played the piano and composed. I made my performance "debut" at age 3 with my Dad. My father is an administrator of an Orthodox Jewish nursing home in Cleveland. He used to bring me in to work with him and would play guitar and sing and I would sing along with him for the residents at the nursing home. I was in showchoir all throughout high school and I was in all of my schools' spring musicals.
As a music ed. major, I really would love to either be a general music teacher in elementary or middle school, or be a middle school choir director. I really enjoy working with kids. I was a counselor at a sleepaway camp for two years.
I was really excited to find out the theme of this class. I love to read fantasy fiction. I have been obsessed with Harry Potter for the past 10 years, and throughout the past 3 or 4 years, I have come to really enjoy fantasy fiction novels about vampires. I am very intrigued to see how we are going to be comparing and contrasting the 4 books we are reading and am interested to hear what others have to say about the books and the theme of the class.
I have never blogged before so this will be a new experience for me!
:)
Hey Andi!
ReplyDeleteLike I told you in class I wish I was musical! My father played the drums and he kept his drum set in our "dinning room".
Glad to see you are in the class. We'll have fun!
I think it's so cool that you're dual music major in Vocal Performance and Choral Music Education! I use to sing all the time when I was younger. Singing is a wonderful thing :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE Harry Potter! Have you ever seen AVMP (A Very Potter Musical)? I think you would enjoy it.
I'm coming to see Into the Woods Saturday with my 8 year old. Dan (your director) is a friend of mine. Great guy. Should be an excellent show.
ReplyDeleteMy dad played French Horn in the orchestra pit fr our local player's guild. Into the Woods was one of the first free shows I got to go see as a kid and fell in love with theater.
